Our Initiatives

Delivered Crisis Support

IslamicFamily has provided essential crisis support to evacuees, addressing urgent needs such as food security, rent assistance, and trauma-informed counselling. These efforts ensure families have immediate relief and a foundation for stability as they navigate their new lives in Edmonton.

Hosted Community Events

We hosted a winter clothing bazaar and a community lunch to support evacuees in practical and meaningful ways. These events provided essential items, fostered a sense of connection, and created a welcoming space for families to engage with the community.

Established Partnerships with Key Organizations

Through collaborations with Nisa Foundation and Islamic Relief Canada, we’ve strengthened our ability to deliver holistic support. These partnerships enable us to meet the diverse needs of evacuees with greater impact and care.

Planned: Hiring a Dedicated Support Worker

IslamicFamily is working on hiring a full-time support worker to provide families with wrap-around services, connecting them with resources, employers, and other service providers.

frequently asked questions

Why is IslamicFamily supporting evacuees?

Families fleeing genocide and military aggression arrive with minimal resources and face immense barriers in Canada. Unlike other groups arriving in the country, these evacuees often face compounded trauma, lack established community networks, and require tailored support to address their immediate and long-term needs.

What are the families’ current needs?

Evacuees face a range of urgent and ongoing needs, including:

  • Community Connection: Events to build local relationships.
  • Legal: Support with immigration/asylum processes.
  • Basic Needs: Winter clothing, food, and income assistance.
  • Housing: Short-term solutions and rent help.
  • Mental Health: Trauma-informed counselling.
  • Education: Guidance on schooling and mentorship.
How can I support?

There are several ways to make a difference:

  • Donate: Contributions directly fund essential services through our the evacuee community fund (coming soon).
  • Offer Services: Volunteer your legal, counselling, medical, or other professional skills via our online form.
  • Hire Newcomers: Provide employment opportunities to evacuees from Gaza and Lebanon via our online form.
  • Volunteer: Sign up to our volunteer roster to be informed about opportunities to get involved.
What are the funds being used for?

Your donations go directly toward:

  • Financial assistance for food, rent, and clothing.
  • Legal fees and medical needs.
  • Professional support such as counseling and other essential services.
What financial transparency measures are you taking?

IslamicFamily is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in how funds are managed and used. We will be providing quarterly updates detailing the amount of funds raised and how they have been spent to support evacuees.
Additionally, as an organization, we publish third-party audited financial statements annually, allowing donors and community members to see exactly how their contributions are making an impact.

Can I meet, adopt, or host a Family?

IslamicFamily does not facilitate individual sponsorships or hosting arrangements. We focus on ensuring evacuees receive professional and holistic support through our coordinated services.

Where can I donate clothing, furniture, housing items, etc.?

IslamicFamily cannot accept physical donations at this time. We will have an update on where clothing, furniture, and household item donations can be made soon.
