IslamicFamily provides clinical counselling, but can also refer clients to registered culturally sensitive psychologists and counsellors. IslamicFamily's pool of mental health professionals take a holistic view that includes spiritual, mental, physical, and social well-being.
IslamicFamily can assist clients currently on probation for their court-mandated anger management counselling. Clients must be referred by their Probation Officer, and appropriate documentation must be provided.
IslamicFamily provides spiritually integrative counselling and mental health care to students at the U of A, NAIT, and online. The service is open for all Muslim youth and young adults in Edmonton.
IslamicFamily provides counselling support, safety assessments, and professional development training to school administrators, teaching staff, and students. IslamicFamily works with Islamic schools, and teachers/schools/boards wanting to develop better supports for Muslim students.
Ibrahim is a passionate advocate for the integration of spirituality and mental health. Throughout his education, he has blended religious studies with training in spiritually-integrated mental health care and counselling. He holds a BA in Religious Studies, an MA in Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations, and a Graduate Certificate in Islamic Chaplaincy from the Hartford Seminary - the first graduate institution to offer accredited training in Muslim chaplaincy. Ibrahim is one of Canada’s only clinically-trained Muslim chaplains, having completed intensive training in spiritually-integrated mental health care and counselling. Ibrahim is presently pursuing a Masters in Social Work with a specialization in Community-Informed Practice for Health and Well-being.

Registered Psychologist & Clinical Director
Lubna is a registered psychologist with a Master’s in Psychological Studies in Education from the University of Alberta, and a Counselling Certificate from Athabasca University. Lubna joined IslamicFamily 12 years ago as a board member. In her time with IslamicFamily, she also provided cultural competency training to community leaders, governments, law enforcement, and service organizations. Lubna has been recognized for her outstanding volunteer commitment and has been awarded the Athabasca Volunteer Service Award, the YMCA Peace Medal, and the Governor General's Sovereign Medal for Volunteers. Lubna now works as IslamicFamily's Clinical Director, leading a team of outreach workers in service and counselling.

IslamicFamily's Helpline is a free and confidential call & text service. Culturally and spiritually sensitive professionals are available to provide support, advice, comfort, information, and resources in multiple languages.
Our Helpline is open 10 AM - 10 PM, 7 days a week.
Ibrahim provides culturally and spiritually sensitive counselling for youth and young adults. Appointments can be made online through his calendar.
Lubna offers spiritually and culturally sensitive counselling services to families and adults. To book an appointment, please call IslamicFamily's Helpline to speak to one of our outreach staff, and determine the best possible support.
IslamicFamily offers counselling in multiple languages. Our staff speaks more than 7 different languages. Translation services are also available.
We are not able to accommodate drop-in requests. All counselling sessions are by appointment only.
IslamicFamily offers counselling at a subsidized cost. This fee will depend on household income and insurance status.
All costs will depend on the insurance status of the client. If the client has insurance coverage for counselling services, they can pay the regular price per session by utilizing their insurance coverage. Once that amount is used up, they can begin paying the standard fee or low-income fee.
Clients who would like to benefit from the subsidized counselling sessions for low-income families will be asked to complete an assessment form. The form will ask some questions and will request a bank statement from the previous month to confirm meeting the threshold bracket. This assessment will be done once per year to ensure continued eligibility. To complete the assessment, please speak to your case worker.
We request that clients please inform their counsellor at least 24 hours prior to their appointment start if they will be unable to make it. The following fee structure applies for cancellations and no-shows:
